PONDA: Chief Electrical Engineer Stephen Fernandes said that blaming short circuits and engineers alone is insufficient in preventing

electrical fires.

He was speaking as chief guest at the inauguration session of the two-day training programme on Electrical Fire Safety Requirements and National Electrical Code of India -2023 held at Goa Engineering College, Farmagudi.

The event was organised by Fire and Security Association of India( FSAI) and Goa Chapter of FSAI'S Skill Development Centre (FSDC).

He emphasized the importance of adhering to safety guidelines and specifications when installing electrical cables and circuits in various settings, including industries, homes, malls, and hospitals.

Fernandes stressed that 85 per cent of electrical fires are caused by electrical issues, and proper enforcement of standards and regulations is crucial.

He also emphasized the need for staying updated with technological advancements related to safety and creating mechanisms for fire detection and prevention.

The speakers urged the participants to follow standard procedures and specifications to prevent fire hazards rather than solely attributing them to short circuits.

Vinayak Shet HoD Electronics and Electrical Engineering, Ashok Menon, FSAI Chairman, and resource persons were present.
