BORIM LAND NOTIFICATION- CONTEMPT OF NGT?

PANJIM: The govt has issued a second notification on 30 October 2024, for Land Acquisition amounting to 3,40,253 sqm in Loutolim and Ponda for the new Borim Bridge even as the case is before the NGT. This notification is for those who objected to the notification on land acquisition. Earlier, on 17 October 2024 first set of land acquisitions was announced in newspapers not popularly read in Salcete, regarding the acquisition of land where there were no objections.

The government of Goa through the office of the special land acquisition officer on 30 October 2024 made a declaration on 3,49,253 sqm of land in Borim and Loutolim for the new Borim bridge. The declaration comes even as the Central Govt and Goa Govt had asked for time to file their replies on 22 October 2024.

The NGT final order is expected on 2nd December 2024. The govt action experts say is in contempt of NGT. 620 pages of objections have been filed before the NGT and govt asked for two weeks Goa to reply to this but issued a land acquisition declaration.

The land acquisition is in the Loutolim and Borim areas. 86 properties of Loutolim comunidade and private land mostly fields, natural cover and orchards are being acquired. Farmers say that this is done without land demarcation. Comunidade has not objected because they are getting huge funds

Land being acquired includes fields in command areas and even in a few instances No Development Zones. 188 properties comunidade of Borim, private properties are being acquired. The properties are paddy fields, orchards, fields in command areas, natural cover and one No Development Zone. One private property is being acquired in Bandora village of Ponda in the No Development zone.
