Students of St Britto’s High School, Mapusa, took up a massive cleanliness initiative along the popular Baga–Calangute beach stretch, showcasing their commitment to community service and environmental protection. The students carried out the drive as part of their Inter Disciplinary Subject activity, blending academics with action-oriented civic responsibility. The exercise, however, went beyond being merely an academic requirement, as the young Britto Boys sought to spread a larger message of environmental awareness and the importance of keeping Goa’s beaches clean.

The event was flagged off in the presence of Chief Guest and Calangute MLA Michael Lobo, who addressed the students before they set out for the drive. Speaking to them, Lobo underlined the direct link between a clean environment, the local economy, and thriving tourism. He said tourism was Goa’s backbone, and keeping beaches litter-free was crucial not only for the health of the ecosystem but also for sustaining livelihoods dependent on tourists who seek out Goa’s natural beauty. Applauding the effort made by the school, he motivated the students to carry these lessons forward into their daily lives, stressing that true change begins at the community level.
