Calangute MLA Michael Lobo has called for stronger government support for persons with disabilities in Goa, urging a significant hike in disability benefits. During the discussion on Social Welfare grant demands, Lobo proposed that monthly assistance for individuals with 40% to 80% disability be raised from the current Rs 2,000 to Rs 6,000. For those with over 80% disability, he recommended increasing the benefit from Rs 3,500 to between Rs 8,000 and Rs 9,000.
Appealing to all legislators to back this proposal, Lobo emphasized the importance of improved financial aid to enhance the quality of life for the disabled community.
Known for his advocacy on disability issues, Lobo has previously pushed for inclusive infrastructure, including wheelchair-accessible beaches in Calangute. His latest proposal aligns with his ongoing commitment to creating a more inclusive and supportive environment for persons with disabilities in Goa.
