VASCO: A Canadian woman, Kristina Lewis was arrested by the Dabolim airport police as she was found carrying prohibited GPS device in her hand baggage.
The incident came to light while screening the baggage in the security hold area of the domestic terminal at Dabolim airport.
The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel deployed at the airport's check-point detected the GPS device -- "GARMIN inReach MINI," in the passenger's belongings during a routine scan.
When questioned, Kristina who was set to board Goa to Kochi flight failed to produce copy of permission from the competent authority to carry the device.
The CISF personnel seized the device and handed over the passenger to the Dabolim Airport police for further investigation.
The police informed that such devices are prohibited in hand baggage as per the security regulations of the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS).
The Dabolim Airport police have registered a case against Kristina Lewis under Section 6 (1A) of the Indian Wireless Telegraphy Act1933 and Section 20 of the Indian Telegraph Act 1885.
A notice under Section 35 (3) of the Code of Criminal Procedure was also served to the accused, the police said.
