MARGAO: South Goa’s coastline witnessed yet another distressing incident as the carcasses of three Finless Porpoises were washed ashore on the beaches of Benaulim, Betalbatim and Arrosim.

These incidents are part of an alarming trend that has seen multiple dolphin strandings across Goa’s coastline, sparking outrage among wildlife conservationists. Conservationists have also highlighted that dolphins are not the only affected species, with reports of deaths and injuries to turtles and seabirds surfacing too. For instance, on Tuesday, lifeguards rescued a turtle at Calangute beach and the Forest Department intervened to treat the turtle’s injuries.

The recurring incidents have raised grave concerns about the potential threats to marine ecosystems and the need for urgent action to protect these vulnerable species. Experts are calling for a thorough investigation into the causes behind these deaths, which could range from environmental pollution, human activities, or other underlying factors.

Authorities and stakeholders are urged to collaborate on sustainable practices and stringent measures to safeguard the State’s rich marine biodiversity before it’s too late.
