The Union Ministry of Law & Justice has officially notified the Readjustment of Representation of Scheduled Tribes in Assembly Constituencies of the State of Goa Act, 2025, paving the way for political reservation for Scheduled Tribes (STs) in the Goa Legislative Assembly.

The landmark legislation ensures representation of ST communities in the state assembly, a long-standing demand of tribal groups in Goa. With the notification, the provisions of the Act will now come into effect, enabling reserved constituencies to be identified as part of the delimitation process.

The move marks a significant step towards fulfilling constitutional guarantees of political inclusion for Scheduled Tribes in Goa, where tribal communities have consistently voiced concerns about under-representation in the state’s decision-making process.

Officials said further details regarding the number and specific constituencies to be reserved will be notified in due course.
