Centre releases Rs 9 cr to fund P’yats in Goa

MARGAO: The Union Government has released Rs 9.69 crore in grants for panchayats in Goa under the 15th Finance Commission allocation for the Financial Year 2024-25. The funds constitute the second instalment of Untied Grants for the Financial Year 2022-23 and will be distributed among 191 panchayats in the State.

According to a press release, the grants were finalised through a collaborative process involving the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Panchayati Raj, and the Ministry of Jal Shakti’s Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation. The funding mechanism involves annual releases in two separate instalments.

The grants are specifically designed to support rural local bodies in addressing local developmental needs. They are intended to cover the 29 subjects listed in the 11th Schedule of the Constitution, with a clear stipulation that the funds cannot be used for salaries or establishment costs.
