MARGAO: The Central Government has sanctioned Rs 1,376 crore for four-laning a 22.10 km stretch of NH-66, covering the route from Bendordem to the Canacona Bypass and from the bypass' end to the Karnataka border at Polem.

“This section forms an integral part of the Mumbai-to-Kanyakumari four-lane corridor and constitutes a pivotal route for South Goa. It serves as a crucial artery connecting the towns of Margao, Cuncolim, and Canacona, and significantly enhances the State’s overall connectivity,” said Union Minister of Road Transport & Highways, Nitin Gadkari in a statement.

“Traversing the villages of Bendordem, Cordem, Barcem, and Canacona, this stretch is indispensable for facilitating inter-State traffic with Karnataka and Maharashtra while also improving intra-State connectivity to key towns such as Panjim and Margao. The development will alleviate congestion, enhance traffic flow, and address critical accident-prone zones in the region,” Gadkari added.
