VASCO: The Chicalim village panchayat has directed Savio Antonio Sequeira, son of Law Minister Aleixo Sequeira to stop the construction work of a ‘unauthorised’ house at Gina, Chicalim.
The Chicalim Youth Farmers Club members sought to know whether unauthorised constructions by bypassing the village panchayat could be undertaken. “Is it okay for the owner to break the rules because he happens to be the law minister? Or will the authority apply the same yardstick for the common man with no powers?" the Chicalim Youth Farmers Club members asked.
Ward member Roman Vaz stated that the construction was illegal to which the panchayat secretary Parsekar said it was unauthorised.
Vaz further questioned about the approvals from the Mormugao Planning and Development Authority (MPDA) and stated that was a violation of the Outline Development Plan (ODP). He further stated he will take up the matter in the upcoming fortnightly meeting of the panchayat.
Following a complaint by the Chicalim Youth Farmers Club (CYFC) secretary Chelsea Fernandes, sarpanch Kamla Prasad Yadav, ward member Roman Vaz, panch Maria Mascarenhas, Panchayat Secretary Rajat Parsekar, Chicalim Youth Farmers Club members, Fr Bolmax Pereira and some villagers inspected the site on Tuesday. Aleixo Sequeira was represented by his son Savio Antonio Sequeira.
Meanwhile, the panchayat inspection report is awaited.
