Children’s Court sentences man to 20 years in jail for kidnapping, raping toddler

PANJIM: The Children's Court, Panjim convicted and sentenced Vijay Katappa Biradar a 29-yr-old Bethora- Ponda resident to 20 years rigorous imprisonment for raping a 13-month-old toddler girl in 2015.

A fine of Rs 9.5 lakh was imposed on the accused.

The accused, who was 19 then, had allegedly taken the victim in his vehicle and raped her.

The court sentenced the accused for offence punishable under Sections 363 of IPC to undergo imprisonment for a term of five years and also directed to pay a fine of Rs 50,000, under sections 342 of IPC to undergo simple imprisonment for a term of one year, under sections 376(2)(I) of IPC to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a term of 20 years and is also directed to pay fine of Rs five lakh and under section 2(y)(I), punishable under section 8(2) of the Goa Children's Act, 2003, to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a term of 20 years and also directed to pay fine of Rs two lakh.

Under section 5 (m), punishable under Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, the court has ordered him to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a term of 20 years and directed to pay a fine of Rs two lakh.

The crime had occurred in the jurisdiction of Ponda Police Station which was then headed by Sudesh Naik.
