In a significant step towards environmental conservation and sustainable development, the Village Panchayat of Chinchinim-Deussua successfully organised a cashew plantation drive at Santmoddi Hillock, Chinchinim.

Around 500 cashew saplings were planted on the occasion, marking a strong commitment to preserving biodiversity and promoting eco-friendly practices in the region.

The initiative was undertaken in association with the Goa Forest Development Corporation (GFDC) under the chairmanship of Deviya Rane, with the comunidade of Chinchinim and the biodiversity committee of Chinchinim also participating.

The collective efforts of these bodies, along with enthusiastic participation from local residents, MLA Cruz Silva, and panchayat members, made the drive a resounding success.

Silva appreciated the panchayat’s initiative in holding various programmes and expressed his support for the panchayat’s overall development of the village. He also thanked Deviya Rane for supporting the panchayat in his Velim constituency for the cashew plantation.

Speaking on the occasion, Sarpanch Frank Viegas emphasised the importance of cashew cultivation in Goa’s agrarian and economic landscape, while also highlighting its environmental benefits. He stressed the need to keep the village clean and green to protect and preserve its rich biodiversity.

Range Forest Officer Bipin Faldessai said the Santmoddi Hillock site was chosen for its suitability for cashew growth and its potential to transform into a lush green space benefiting both the local community and the ecosystem. He noted that the drive is part of the GFDC’s ongoing mission to promote sustainable land use and environmental stewardship.

The village panchayat extended heartfelt thanks to all participants, especially the collaborating organisations, for their support in making this initiative a meaningful step towards a greener future for Chinchinim-Deussua.
