Chinchinim-Deussua villagers taught ornamental fish farming

MARGAO: The Village Panchayat of Chinchinim-Deussua, in collaboration with the Directorate of Fisheries and Krishi Vigyan Kendra successfully conducted a short-term training program aimed at empowering local villagers in the fields of ornamental fish breeding and rearing, as well as aquarium fabrication.

The programme was designed to provide participants with essential skills and knowledge in aquaculture, focusing on the techniques and practices necessary for breeding and rearing ornamental fish. Additionally, the training included practical sessions on how to fabricate aquariums, enabling villagers to create their own aquatic environments.

This initiative not only aims to enhance the livelihood opportunities for the local community but also promotes sustainable practices in fish farming and aquarium maintenance. By equipping villagers with these skills, the program seeks to foster economic growth and encourage the development of local businesses in ornamental fish and aquarium trade, said Sarpanch Frank Viegas.

Dr Hrishikesh Pawar fisheries scientist extended his support and expertise in making these programs a success. Participants expressed enthusiasm about the training, with many looking forward to applying their new skills in their homes and communities.

It is leant that Kerala, Tamil Nadu and west Bengal mainly practice ornamental fish farming.
