MARGAO: The Chinchinim-Deussua Village Panchayat on Sunday resolved to protect agricultural and orchard land and called for the construction of bypasses on stilts along National Highway 66.

During the gram sabha, crucial concerns raised by local residents were addressed, leading to unanimous resolutions aimed at preserving the community’s agricultural heritage.

The resolutions also focused on enhancing infrastructure to better support the villagers’ needs.

At the meeting, the villagers voiced their strong opposition to the sale of agricultural and orchard land to non-Goans.

“This resolution emphasises the importance of safeguarding local agricultural practices and ensuring that land remains accessible to the local farming community. The panchayat will work towards implementing measures that restrict such sales and protect the agricultural landscape of Chinchinim and will bring to the notice of the department concerned,” said sarpanch Frank Viegas.

The locals also voiced concerns regarding traffic congestion and safety along NH 66, particularly at Dandeavaddo.

The Sarpanch said that the panchayat has formally requested the construction of a bypass on stilts to alleviate traffic issues and enhance pedestrian safety.

Among the other resolutions passed at the gram sabha include the construction of a Panchayat Ghar. The sarpanch said that the need for a dedicated Panchayat Ghar has been highlighted as a priority for the community. The panchayat submitted a request to the Chief Minister for the phased construction of this facility, which will serve as a hub for local governance and community activities. The establishment of a Panchayat Ghar is essential for improving administrative efficiency and fostering community engagement.
