The Maina Curtorim police have seized tobacco products from a general store located near Carmel College, after it was found selling cigarettes and gutka within 100 yards of an educational institution—a clear violation of Section 6 of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA), 2003.
During the inspection, police seized 55 packets of cigarettes of various brands and several gutka packets from the premises.
Authorities confirmed that action has been initiated against the store for violating the Act, which strictly prohibits the sale of cigarettes and other tobacco products near educational institutions to safeguard student health.
