PANJIM: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Wednesday questioned as to why the ranking of Goa University has been falling in spite of push for infrastructure and human resources.

Speaking after inaugurating the Goa University Research Park Unit—GURU, Sawant said, “In spite of infra push and human resource, 50% Goan students do not know about GPSC or any competitive exams. If they are asked why they do not appear for the examinations, they say they are not confident. 80 per cent of students are not ready to face the competitive exams.”

“Students who pass out from the university should be ready to face competitive exams but they are unaware of Goa Public Service Commission conducting exams for government jobs. Goan students should be part of space missions in future. If a thought is not given now then hardly two to three percent of the students will be researchers,” the Chief Minister said.

In the new category of State Public University released in August this year, Goa University had found a place in the 51-100 category at the 2024 National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) of the education minister. However, in general category for all universities, the Goa University had slipped to the 151-200 band.
