Goa Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant recently laid the foundation stone for an Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL) fuel pump at Colvale and Sub Jail Sada, while inaugurating several important Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives at Central Jail Colvale. These projects are the result of a collaborative effort between IOCL, Glenmark Pharmaceuticals, and Goa Carbon Ltd, demonstrating a strong public-private partnership focused on sustainable development and infrastructure improvement.
The key projects launched include a Sewerage Treatment Plant, a Paper Waste Recycling Project, and a Water Conservation Project. The water conservation effort is expected to save 75 lakh cubic meters of rainwater annually, addressing urgent water sustainability issues in the region. The paper recycling unit is particularly innovative, aiming to transform the jail into a recreational center, making it the first prison in India to adopt such a rehabilitative model. This initiative will engage inmates in skill development and productive activities, supporting their rehabilitation.
The new Sewerage Treatment Plant will enhance sanitation and environmental quality within the jail, improving health and hygiene standards. The inauguration was attended by notable dignitaries, including Goa State Women’s Commission Chairperson Smt. Ranjita Pai, industrialist Shri Shrinivas Dempo, IOCL representatives, and government officials, highlighting the significance of these projects.
CM Sawant applauded the companies involved and emphasized the government’s dedication to boosting infrastructure through partnerships with the private sector. These initiatives reflect Goa’s commitment to sustainable resource management and innovative approaches to rehabilitation, paving the way for a better future.
