CM Pramod Sawant Urges Parents, Youth to Stay Alert Against Drug Trafficking Lure

Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has issued a strong appeal to parents and young people, urging them to remain vigilant against the growing menace of drug trafficking. Speaking at a rally organised by the Bicholim Police Station on the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, Sawant warned that drug networks are increasingly targeting locals—especially youth—with promises of quick and easy money in exchange for transporting suspicious parcels.

“The promise of easy money has unfortunately led some to become entangled in the illegal drug trade,” he said, adding that such choices can have long-term consequences for individuals and their families. He stressed that traffickers prey on financial needs and lack of awareness, making it essential for families to stay alert.

Sawant called on parents to maintain open communication with their children and to monitor their social circles. “Awareness and guidance at home are crucial in keeping our youth safe from such traps,” he said, urging parents to counsel their children about the dangers of accepting unknown parcels or associating with suspicious individuals.

The Chief Minister emphasised that tackling the drug problem is not solely a police responsibility, but a shared one that involves parents, educators, and community leaders. “We need to work together to create a Nashamukt Goa,” he declared, encouraging every citizen to support anti-drug initiatives.

Meanwhile, the Anti-Narcotics Cell has ramped up awareness efforts statewide. Bicholim Police Inspector Vijay Rane and his team are actively organising rallies and holding educational sessions in schools and colleges across Sakhali and Bicholim taluka. PI Rane echoed Sawant’s message, urging public participation to help protect the next generation from the dangerous grip of drug abuse.
