Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has urged Comunidade managing committees and other institutions to extend cooperation in legalising homes occupied by residents for over four decades.

Delivering his Independence Day speech at the Old Secretariat, Panjim, Sawant said that the Goa Legislative Diploma No. 2070 dated April 15, 1961, was amended to secure the right of the common man to live legally in his own house and not to regularise illegal constructions.

“With the passing of the Goa Regularisation of Unauthorised Construction (Amendment) Act 2025, the government is making it easier than ever to regularise constructions - a step forward in our commitment to ‘Ease of Doing Business’,” he said.

Sawant stated that the Bill reserving Assembly seats for Scheduled Tribes (ST) will give Goa’s tribal community the political voice they deserve. He assured them that his government will keep working to strengthen and uplift them.

Goa’s health sector, he added, is being strengthened with the induction of more doctors, upgraded facilities and new specialised services for patients across the State.

Within the Goa University campus, land has been acquired to provide premises for prestigious institutions such as the Goa College of Pharmacy, Fine Arts College, Goa College of Home Science, Goa College of Architecture and Goa College of Music, he informed.

The chief minister also announced that the Kunbi village project in Sanguem will be completed within three months.

Later, the chief minister presented awards in various disciplines to recipients in recognition of their meritorious services. The awards comprised a medal and certificate.
