Collapsed Building Debris Cleared in Pernem; Road to Reopen Soon, Confirms local MLA

Following a partial building collapse that led to a road closure in Pernem, local authorities have cleared the debris, and the route is expected to reopen to the public within the next day or two.

Pernem MLA Pravin Arlekar, who had inspected the dilapidated structure during last year’s monsoon season, confirmed that the building had shown signs of severe deterioration for some time. In response, traffic had been diverted over the past ten days as a precautionary measure to ensure public safety.

“With the debris now cleared, there will be no hindrance to locals. The road is likely to reopen either today or by tomorrow,” Arlekar said.

The situation had raised concerns among residents about the structural safety of old buildings in the area, especially during the monsoon. Local authorities are reportedly planning further inspections to prevent similar incidents in the future.
