MARGAO: Members of the Colva gram sabha called for decisive action against encroachments within the village and urged the police to conduct thorough tenant verifications, not only for those renting to migrant labourers but also for landlords leasing properties to non-Goans. Emphasis was placed on safeguarding the village’s security.
Residents further requested improvements to bus stands and stricter monitoring of local buses navigating internal village roads.
Concerns were raised regarding possible sewage discharge from hotels and commercial establishments into the Colva Creek, with locals expressing distress over the resulting pollution.
It was resolved to revoke the NOC for a pumping station located near schools and residential areas, as well as the NOC for a medical practitioner’s establishment where a recent patient death occurred. The gram sabha also discussed the need for cashless facilities and a salary increase for panchayat members.
Villagers also requested an inquiry into the operations and funding of a local NGO following multiple complaints the NGO had filed against local businesses.
Other matters included asking the Tourism Department to present the master plan for infrastructure developments at Colva beach and urging police patrols to curb drinking and public nuisance caused by anti-social elements on the beach.
