Colvale Elderly Woman Left Homeless After House Collapse Despite Repeated Promises of Help

In a distressing case of official apathy, 65-year-old Kanchana Naik of Koni Waddo, Colvale, has been living in desperate conditions after her dilapidated mud house collapsed completely during heavy wind and rain on June 3, 2025.

Naik, who has lived alone in the crumbling structure for nearly four decades, first lost part of her home to last year’s monsoon. Though the Thivim MLA and Colvale Panchayat visited after the initial damage and promised assistance, no concrete help materialized.

Following the latest collapse, the Talathi conducted an inspection and again assured immediate support. But weeks later, Naik continues to wait in tears without any relief or shelter. Only one panchayat member has extended personal help, while official aid remains elusive.

Locals have expressed outrage over the repeated broken promises, highlighting the urgent need for the authorities to act before the monsoon intensifies further.
