The High Court permitted former RSS Chief Subhash Velingkar to appear before Bicholim police station by 4 pm on Thursday. Velingkar volunteered to join the investigation, and police have stated that if he cooperates, an arrest might not be necessary. The hearing for the anticipatory bail application of Subhash Velignkar at the High Court of Bombay was heard on Thursday morning.
Subhash Velingkar created a state-wide controversy stir by commenting on St Francis Xavier’s body, thereby hurting religious sentiments. Two interventions were filed against Velingkar. One is by Velim MLA Cruz Silva, and the other is by Warren Alemao. After the lower court refused to give him anticipatory bail, his fate now depends on this petition. The police have said that Velingkar was not cooperating with the agencies.
Lawyer representing Velingkar stated, “I had not received any notice from police till I filed anticipatory bail. Police pasted the notice on my door and gave an hour to appear before them. Today I have received third notice. I would like to comply with it. My only request is that I should not be arrested.”
“We have not yet interrogated Velingkar. The notice was pasted on morning of October 5th on his door. We want to interrogate him but he is not available to serve the notice,” Public prosecutor.
The High Court judge B P Deshpande allowing all four intervention applications, fixed the matter for further arguments on Monday.
Velingkar had offered to go and join the investigation. The police said that he has to appear before them before 5 pm and if he cooperates arrest will not required.
