An alleged illegal staircase construction in Shirvodem, Margao, has come under scrutiny after complaints from concerned residents.
A team composed of Margao Municipal Councillor Mahesh Amonkar, a municipal engineer, and members of a local housing society conducted an on-site inspection of the disputed structure.
Residents had raised concerns over the legality and safety of the staircase, pointing to potential hazards for both the building’s occupants and the surrounding community.
Taking strong objection to the unauthorized construction, Councillor Mahesh Amonkar said, “We take such complaints very seriously. Any construction that violates safety norms or municipal regulations needs to face strict action. Residents’ safety is our top priority.”
He further alleged that the shops operated by the same owner are also illegal, demanding that the Margao Municipal Council (MMC) take strict and immediate action against the violators.
Municipal officials have documented their observations during the visit, and the findings will be reviewed before deciding the next steps. Authorities indicated that if violations are confirmed, legal action will be initiated to ensure compliance with municipal laws.
