Congress Did Not Oppose ST Reservation Bill in Lok Sabha, Says LoP Yuri Alemao

Leader of the Opposition Yuri Alemao has clarified that the Congress party did not oppose the Readjustment of ST Representation in Goa Assembly Bill, 2024 in the Lok Sabha, countering allegations made by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant.

“The Congress did not oppose the ST reservation bill in the Lok Sabha. There was another issue related to Bihar being discussed at the time, and the bill was not tabled,” Alemao explained.

He further asserted that the Congress remains fully committed to the cause of Goa’s Scheduled Tribes. “Let them table it again. We are with the ST community,” he said, reaffirming his party’s support.

Alemao’s remarks come in response to CM Sawant’s accusation that the Congress and INDIA alliance disrupted the introduction of the bill, allegedly betraying the interests of the tribal community.
