Congress Hits Out at BJP’s U-Turn on GST, Calls It Admission of Guilt

Goa Pradesh Congress Committee President Amit Patkar has come down heavily on the BJP government for what he termed a “belated and hypocritical” acceptance of Rahul Gandhi’s demand for an 18% GST cap.

Patkar recalled that Rahul Gandhi had first proposed the cap in 2016, only to be mocked and dismissed by the BJP. “For nine years, households, small traders, and entrepreneurs bore the burden of a flawed GST regime. Now, after damaging India’s economy and looting the common man, BJP quietly accepts the same idea,” he said.

Calling it an “admission of guilt,” the GPCC chief argued that Rahul Gandhi’s foresight and commitment to the common man had been vindicated. He added that Congress has always stood for a fair and people-centric GST, while BJP’s arrogance caused lasting harm.

Patkar stressed that the Congress will continue to push for policies that ease the burden on ordinary citizens and ensure inclusive economic growth.
