Congress Slams BJP Over Governance Failures in Curchorem Belt, Pledges Revival of Mining and Youth Opportunities
As part of the Samvidhan Bachao Abhiyan, Congress workers and supporters from Curchorem, Sanvordem, and Sanguem gathered in large numbers to express their discontent with the ruling BJP government, accusing it of failing to address core issues like unemployment, damaged infrastructure, and the stalled mining industry.
Speaking at the meeting, party leaders highlighted the growing frustration among the youth over joblessness and criticised the BJP for failing to deliver on its promises to restart the mining business—a critical source of income for residents in the region. “People from this belt have long depended on mining. Today, their voices were loud and clear—we assure them that a solution is on the way,” said senior Congress leader Yuri Alemao.
Participants also raised concerns about damaged roads, an inefficient garbage collection system, and widespread opposition to the proposed jetty in Sanvordem under the Sagarmala project, which many fear will disrupt local livelihoods and the environment.
Alemao further accused the BJP of attempting to undermine democracy by encouraging political defections and exploiting public trust. “Every Goan today sees through the BJP’s betrayal. But the overwhelming support we’re receiving gives me confidence that the Congress will make a triumphant return,” he said, extending gratitude to the party’s workers and loyal supporters.
Prominent Congress figures present at the meeting included GPCC President Amit Patkar, South Goa MP Capt. Viriato Fernandes, MLA Altone D’Costa, Dr. Pratiksha Khalap, Nitin Chopdekar, and Mahesh Nadar. The event served as both a show of strength and a platform to reinforce the party's commitment to people-centric governance.
