PANJIM: The Goa Police Department issued a termination of service notice to constable (wireless messenger) Vishal Madgaonkar after he was convicted for creating a nuisance under the influence of alcohol by the court.
The notice of termination of service has been issued under Rule 5 (1) of the Central Civil Services (Temporary Service) Rule, 1965, by the Superintendent of Police (Headquarters) Nelson Albuquerque.
“The action was initiated in line with the zero tolerance policy towards criminal behaviour in the police force,” said the SP.
The services of Madgaonkar will stand terminated with effect from the date of expiry of a period of one month from the date on which the notice is served on, or as the case may be.
On December 5, 2023, Madgaonkar and Dattaraj Kuthwalkar were convicted by the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC), Vasco after they were found creating nuisance under the influence of alcohol at Swatantra Path Road. They committed an offence punishable under Section 34 (VI) of the IP Act.
“The constable was convicted after police verification was completed and before he joined the force. As per the declaration submitted by Madgaonkar, he failed to declare his conviction by the court to the authorities at the time of recruitment,” said the SP.
Both had pleaded guilty to the offence and the JMFC ordered them to pay a fine of Rs 50 each or in default to undergo two days simple imprisonment.
