The Cuncolim police have registered an FIR against Sayed Ali, a resident of Assam, for allegedly breaking into a local factory’s drawers and safe locker and stealing ₹3.18 lakh in cash.
According to police sources, the factory owner discovered the cash missing during routine checks last week and immediately alerted authorities. Initial investigations revealed that the culprit had forcibly opened multiple drawers and the safe, making away with the substantial sum.
“The accused is alleged to have gained access to the premises after business hours,” said Inspector Rajesh Naik of the Cuncolim Police Station. “We have recorded statements from factory staff and are examining CCTV footage to trace his movements.”
Sayed Ali, who reportedly travelled to Goa seeking work, is currently at large. The FIR cites theft and criminal breach of trust under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. Local police teams have intensified efforts to track down the suspect, coordinating with border and transport authorities.
The probe is ongoing, with investigators focusing on forensic examination of the crime scene and analysis of digital evidence. “We urge anyone with information on Ali’s whereabouts or the theft incident to come forward,” Inspector Naik added.
This incident underscores growing concerns over industrial security in the region, prompting several factory owners to review and strengthen their surveillance and cash-handling procedures.
