A large gathering of residents from Curchorem and nearby areas recently came together in a public meeting to push for the creation of Goa’s third district, with Curchorem proposed as its headquarters.
Citizens representing various sectors of society—including civic leaders, professionals, and local activists—voiced unanimous support for the move, stating that Curchorem’s strategic geographical position, robust infrastructure, and connectivity make it the ideal choice for district status.
Speakers at the meeting highlighted the town’s accessibility from both North and South Goa, availability of administrative facilities, and its potential to ease the burden on the existing North and South Goa districts. The proposal, they said, would not only bring governance closer to the people but also accelerate development in the hinterlands.
The demand reflects growing calls across the State for administrative decentralisation to ensure more efficient public service delivery.
