Curchorem Sub-District Hospital Faces Delays in Specialist Services, Staff Shortages Impact Patient Care
Published on

Curchorem Community Health Centre, recently inaugurated and declared as a Sub-District Hospital, continues to face critical gaps in healthcare delivery due to the absence of consultant specialist services and persistent staff shortages. The lack of specialists in key departments such as surgery, gynaecology, orthopaedics, paediatrics, and anaesthesia forces doctors to frequently refer patients to Hospicio Hospital, Margao, resulting in significant inconvenience and delays in medical care for Curchorem residents.

Compounding the problem, there is an acute shortage of Multi-Tasking Staff (MTS) and staff nurses, which has impacted daily hospital operations and patient care. Though financial approval for the hospital's upgrade has been sanctioned, progress on implementing necessary improvements remains slow. Experts and stakeholders stress the urgent need for deployment of consultant doctors and medical staff, emphasizing that essential healthcare services must be made available to Curchorem and surrounding areas without delay.

Calls have been made for the government to expedite recruitment and provide the required infrastructure and facilities for specialist services, in order to ensure the well-being and timely treatment of local communities.
