PONDA: Curti locals have expressed concerns over the dangerous parking of trucks at Amigos junction on the four-lane highway at Kerya, Khandepar.

The residents said that in absence of truck terminus, truck drivers are forced to park on the highway.

They complained that this parking poses a risk to motorists, as one road leads to Vasco and another to Panjim. The parking of vehicles affects front visibility especially to those motorists coming from Belagavi to Goa, causing confusion and leading to accidents.

The locals had previously protested and stopped the dangerous parking after a fatal accident a year-and-a-half ago.

Sandeep Parkar, a local, recalled that one-and-half years ago following the fatal death of a resident due to truck parking, the residents had protested and forced authorities to stop dangerous truck parking. The Curti- Khandepar Panchayat had also installed ‘no parking’ sign boards at the site. Following this, parking of trucks stopped, but now, the same has resumed, causing inconvenience to drivers.

He suggested setting up a truck terminus at Sanjivani Sugar Factory land to generate revenue and solve the parking issue.

Parkar said that in absence of truck terminus, truck drivers are forced to park at the roadside.

The traffic police said that they periodically clear dangerous parking on highways, but cannot be present 24 hours a day to issue challans.
