A Goa court has sentenced a 23-year-old man to life imprisonment for the fatal stabbing of his friend during a late-night quarrel. Principal District and Sessions Judge Sherin Paul delivered the verdict against Ismail Mulla, a resident of Davorlim, holding him guilty of murdering 22-year-old Mujahid Khan in May 2020.
The case dates back to May 31, 2020, when an altercation between the two young men escalated into violence. According to the prosecution, Mulla attacked Khan with a knife, inflicting fatal injuries. Despite being rushed for medical treatment, Khan succumbed to his wounds. The incident shocked the local community, as both men were known to each other, and the crime was reportedly fueled by a sudden fit of anger rather than premeditated enmity.
In her judgment, Judge Paul imposed a sentence of life imprisonment under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code, noting the seriousness of the crime and its impact on the victim’s family. Along with the prison term, the court ordered Mulla to pay a fine of ₹1 lakh. Of this amount, ₹75,000 will be handed over to Khan’s family as compensation for their loss.
