VASCO: Bhim Kumar Yadav, a passenger who was seriously injured in Thursday's minibus accident succumbed to his injuries on Friday, taking the death toll two.
On Thursday the bus conductor had died when the minibus overloaded with passengers overturned at Queeny Nagar junction, near Velsao.
Yadav (23) succumbed to his severe injuries at the Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC), Bambolim.
Five passengers are still undergoing treatment at the GMC and Hospital, Bambolim, according to the police, who are conducting investigations.
Meanwhile, the Verna police arrested the driver of the ill-fated minibus that overturned at Upasnagar-Sancoale.
The police gave the name of the driver as Akbar Goji of Fakir Galli, Vasco. He had filed from the spot without rendering help to injured and also did not inform the police.
Police stated that Akbar was allegedly under the influence of alcohol and driving rashly and recklessly at the time of the accident.
Police further stated that the minibus was overloaded with passengers standing between the seats and aisle and some were also seated in the driver’s cabin when it is not permitted.
Akbar Goji has been remanded in three days police custody.
A case has been registered against Akbar under Sections 281, 105, 125(a) and 125(b) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and under Sections 134-A, 134-B, 185, 125, and 192(A) of the Motor Vehicles Act.
