PERNEM: Demolition of the alleged illegal structures built in violation of Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) norms continued for the second day at Girkarwada, Arambol in Pernem taluka, on Wednesday.
The High Court of Bombay at Goa had ordered demolition of as many as 15 illegal construction of huts with Mangalore tiles, cement poles, permanent structure, overhead tank, toilet block and kitchen in Survey No. 64/0 of Girkarwada, Arambol, mostly by a former sarpanch.
Arambol P'yat Secretary Subhash Kambli said that demolition of illegal structures was started on Tuesday. So far six structures have been razed by the demolition squad, he said, adding demolition was carried out as per the directives of the High Court of Bombay at Goa.
During the last hearing, the High Court had asked the authorities to provide details of illegal structures and action taken in a tabulated chart format.The GCZMA had submitted that it had identified 216 structures as illegal and that show cause notices were issued to them. The Court had asked the GCZMA to clarify how many of such illegal structures identified had been factually demolished.
The court had further asked the GCZMA to dispose of 18 cases as expeditiously as possible and preferably within the next three month. Similarly, the Additional Director of Panchayats was also asked to dispose of the appeals of 18 cases within the next three month.
It was further informed by the GCZMA and panchayat secretary that though it had demolished most of the structures few belonging to one Francis Fernandes were still in existence at the site.
Fernandes claimed that they were permanent structures. The court has now posted the matter for further hearing on September 23.
