PANJIM: Despite Chief Minister Pramod Sawant’s statement that police officers stationed at the same police station for more than three years will be transferred, Margao PI Tulshidas Naik, three others are yet to be relieved.
Also a head constable, who was transferred, joined new posting and within few days returned to Margao.
As many as 704 police personnel including sub-inspectors (PSI), assistant sub-inspectors (ASI), head constables and constables, were issued transfer orders dated September 27, 2024, but many of them are yet to be relieved of their duties, sparking concerns over the delayed implementation of these transfers.
A senior police officer, speaking on condition of anonymity, explained that transfers of personnel below the rank of inspector within the State are managed by the Superintendent of Police (SP).
Police Sources informed O Heraldo that certain police stations such as Ponda, has nine police sub-inspectors of which two PSIs were transferred but are not relieved to take their new postings.
In Margao, three police personnel including PI Tulshidas Naik have continued in their current posts.
PI Naik was among 10 police inspectors who were transferred by an order dated August 26, 2024. PI Naik was transferred and posted at ACB/Vigilance, Panjim while, PI Ditendra Naik, who was attached to the DGP office, Headquarters, Panjim, was transferred as PI of Margao Police Station. But even after two months, both officers continue in their same positions.
Similarly, two assistant sub-inspectors (ASIs) were transferred from Colva Police Station to Cuncolim Police Station, but only one ASI was relieved. A PSI from Maina-Curtorim Police Station also has not been relieved till date.
What is interesting is the penchant of an ASI for the Margao Police Station. ASI Shamir Nagnuri, before his promotion was transferred from Margao Police Station to Quepem Police Station. After his posting at Quepem for two months, he returned to the Women’s Police Station, Margao and again at the Margao Police Station.
Nagnuri’s transfer order dated September 27, 2024, now mandates a transfer to the Vasco Police Station. Upon transfer, he joined the new posting and within a few days managed to get an internal order and returned to the office of SP South, Margao. He has worked for maximum years at Margao Police Station and his transfer appears to be of short duration, given his penchant for Margao Police Station.
His continued presence at the Margao Police Station has raised eyebrows. Similarly, another head constable at Maina-Curtorim Police Station has reportedly not been transferred for years.
There is yet another case at the Curchorem Police station where a head constable is working for several years and another at the Maina-Curtorim Police Station is working as a duty master. Also a constable attached to beat duty is working at Margao Police Station for several years.
It may be recalled that during the recent review meeting with senior police officers, the Chief Minister had emphasised that officers posted at preferred stations as favours will not be retained.
