With many issues suddenly becoming the talk of the town amid severe flood-like conditions, Leader of the Opposition Yuri Alemao has strongly criticised the Goa state administration. He bluntly stated, “Disaster management has become a disaster,” highlighting the government’s failure to effectively respond to the crisis. Alemao’s remarks underscore growing concerns about the state’s preparedness and ability to handle natural calamities.
Alemao also targeted the Smart City project, condemning the quality of infrastructure developed under the initiative. He sarcastically labeled it a "Shitty City," pointing to persistent issues such as waterlogging and damaged roads that have worsened during the recent rains. His critique reflects widespread public dissatisfaction with the tangible outcomes of the project, which was meant to modernize and improve urban living conditions.
Further warning of the consequences of poor governance and lack of accountability, Alemao cautioned that Goa risks becoming a "banana republic". His comments resonate with many residents frustrated by the state’s inadequate civic infrastructure and emergency response systems, emphasising the urgent need for better planning and governance to prevent future crises.
