In a strong message aimed at raising standards in public healthcare, Goa’s Health Minister Vishwajit Rane has announced that doctors at Goa Medical College (GMC) who fail to adapt to new technologies and upgrade their medical knowledge will face termination from service.

Speaking to reporters, Minister Rane emphasized the government's commitment to ensuring top-tier medical care in the state. “We want the best of services at Goa Medical College. Those who cannot keep up with the evolving landscape of medical science and technology will not be retained,” he said.

Rane stated that continuous learning and upskilling are now essential expectations from the medical fraternity, especially at institutions like GMC which serve as the backbone of Goa’s public health system.

The move comes as part of a broader government push to modernize healthcare infrastructure and improve service delivery in state-run hospitals. The minister reiterated that accountability and performance will be key benchmarks moving forward.

The announcement has sparked discussion within medical circles, with some welcoming the focus on excellence, while others call for structured training opportunities and institutional support to help doctors upgrade their skills.
