PANJIM: The Cyber Crime Cell of the Goa Police on Friday raised an alarm and urged citizens to instantly block online investment advertisements on their social media accounts promising high returns to ward off fraud.
In a message to the people, SP (Cyber Crime) Rahul Gupta said, “ If not blocked, then such adverstiments will keep coming to you on your social media account time and again. If one shows even the slightest interest, in a specific topic then the algorithm keeps pushing such content on a regular basis.”
“The fraudster will tell you that he will get you high returns on the investment and for that you will have to join some telegram group or WhatsApp group. He will send you link of the group which will have a lot of people who will be taking stock investments. They will ask investment in one of their bank accounts. You will transfer the money,” he said.
Gupta said, “There will be online platforms where you can see that your investment is increasing day by day. Thus you will gain trust of the company. Genuine investments are governed by financial institutions in the country. If somebody is promising you returns that are very high then you should start doubting. You should also make an informed choice. Please take advice from somebody who is familiar with the investment.”
