MARGAO: Fatorda residents have raised concerns about pavers dumped in front of St Francis Xavier (SFX) Chapel in Madel, Margao.
Social worker Milagres Fernandes in a letter addressed to the Margao Municipal Council (MMC) Chairperson, Damodar Shirodkar stated that the chapel, located opposite the Osia complex, is preparing for its annual feast on December 3, 2024, with novenas beginning on November 24.
According to Fernandes, the small chapel is surrounded by limited space, which is now further constrained by pavers dumped by the Municipal Council in the adjacent parking area. He claims these pavers, intended for the council-owned parking space, have remained there for two years without being installed or properly relocated.
“This obstruction is creating inconvenience to devotees, who struggle to stand and pray freely due to the congestion. The situation will be particularly problematic during the upcoming religious events,” said Fernandes.
Fernandes has now requested the MMC to either remove the dumped pavers or relocate them from the chapel site before the novenas begin as it would cause inconvenience to devotees.
