VASCO: Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) president Amit Patkar on Thursday alleged that hill cutting at Cortalim junction, which caused a landslide, had no permissions from the Disaster Management Authority as confirmed by the Mormugao Deputy Collector.

Patkar, who visited the landslide site, expressed his serious concerns over the ongoing situation. The landslide area witnessed illegal hill cutting reported last week, he said, adding that when inquired, it was told that the Disaster Management Authority had granted permission for the activity. But upon further inquiry with the deputy collector, it was revealed that no permission had been given for hill cutting at the site.

This means that PWD was lying to the people of the State, Patkar charged.

He also demanded an inquiry against the PWD assistant engineer involved. “This is a clear example of the government's collapse and failure to manage basic infrastructure. If the road is not opened by tomorrow (Friday), we will have no choice but to take matters into our own hands and halt traffic on the national highway,” warned Patkar.
