MARGAO: The joint Inspection of the Cutbona Jetty will be conducted at 11 am on Friday, according to a notice issued by Salcete Deputy Collector and Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Ganesh Barve. The inspection is a follow-up to the meeting held on Wednesday to review health and sanitation facilities at the jetty and prevent the spread of vector-borne diseases, in the wake of a dengue outbreak amongst fishing boat workers.

A review meeting earlier this week, attended by government officials representing various departments including the police, panchayats of Velim and Cavelossim villages, Velim MLA Cruz Silva and the NGO GOACAN, called for immediate and long-term measures to address the crisis.

The meeting, convened by the Deputy Collector, highlighted the need for improved hygiene and infrastructure at the jetty.

Key stakeholders will participate in the inspection to assess the ground situation and implement the agreed-upon measures to protect the health of the labour force and local communities. At present, the Balli Primary Health Centre (PHC) has deputed a team at the jetty to carry out testing activities.
