PANJIM: HIV is a dangerous disease that causes AIDS, and therefore early detection of this disease is essential, stated Deputy Director of Health Services Dr Shaheen Saiyed at a function organised to launch the State-wide Integrated Health Campaign by the Goa State AIDS Control Society in Mapusa on Wednesday.
The Goa State AIDS Control Society, in coordination with the Directorate of Health Services and the Urban Health Centre in Mapusa, has launched a State-wide Integrated Health Campaign for general health check-ups, STI, and HIV screening.
Dr Saiyed, exhorting the public, said that regular health check-ups can help detect diseases early, allowing for timely treatment. HIV must be detected well in advance to ensure effective treatment. She highlighted that the stigma surrounding HIV can ruin lives and stressed the need for early diagnosis of the disease. Dr Saiyed mentioned that the government intends to provide adequate health services at the doorstep of the people and has therefore launched the Integrated Health Campaign throughout the State, appealing to the public to take advantage of this facility.
Mapusa Municipal Councillor Shubhangi Vaingankar, while addressing the audience, stated that we must take proper care of our health. Regular check-ups at intervals will help keep us healthy. The government, she said, is providing medical services at our doorstep, demonstrating its concern for the health of the people.
Project Director of GSACS Dr Lalitha Umraskar provided an overview of the Integrated Health Campaign. Joint Director of Health Services Ramakant Sawant, Health Officer Dinesh Parab, staff from GSACS Urban Health Centre, Mapusa, and others attended the function. DDICTC Tanvi Sirsat compered the event.
