An elderly couple belonging to a well-known business family endured a harrowing ordeal in the early hours of Sunday when three armed robbers broke into their bungalow in Dona Paula, tied them up, and looted their residence.
The incident occurred between 12:00 AM and 4:00 AM, according to reports. The intruders, armed with daggers, gained access to the property after allegedly assaulting the security guard posted at the bungalow's entrance.
Once inside, the robbers entered the bedroom where the 77-year-old man and his 71-year-old wife were sleeping. The couple was reportedly tied to their bed as the criminals ransacked the home.
The exact value of the stolen items is yet to be officially confirmed, but authorities believe the burglars made away with cash, jewelry, and other valuables.
The traumatic incident has shocked the usually quiet and upscale neighborhood of Dona Paula, with residents calling for tighter security and night patrols in the area.
Over 36 hours after the robbery on Saturday night, Panjim police have yet to make any headway.
