Election Commission Launches New System to Deliver Voter ID Cards Within 15 Days

In a major step toward streamlining the voter registration process, the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Wednesday announced a new system aimed at ensuring the delivery of Elector Photo Identity Cards (EPICs) within 15 days of any update in the electoral rolls.

This includes new enrolments as well as changes in existing voter details. Currently, it takes slightly over a month for voter ID cards to reach electors, according to election officials.

Under the new mechanism, voters will benefit from real-time tracking of their EPICs from the moment they are generated by the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) to final delivery by the Department of Posts (DoP).

To enhance transparency and keep electors informed, the ECI said voters will receive SMS alerts at every key stage of the process.

"This initiative aims to significantly cut down the delivery time and improve the overall voter experience by ensuring timely access to identity documents," an ECI official said.

The move is part of the Commission’s broader effort to modernize electoral services and increase voter satisfaction ahead of upcoming elections.
