PANJIM: The State Electricity Department has issued a circular to all the concerned officials asking them to route all applications for electricity connections applied under Goa Public Health Act, through them for obtaining Government approval in the matter.

In the circular, Chief Electrical Engineer Stephen Fernandes has said, “It is enjoined upon all the concerned officials to route all applications for electricity connection applied for under Goa Public Health Act to this office for obtaining government approval in the matter."

“The applications shall be accompanied with site inspection report covering the technical aspects, with a confirmation whether the premises are inhabited or occupied by the applicant duly signed by the concerned Junior Engineer,” he said.

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant had on Tuesday said that since owners of illegally constructed houses misuse the provisions of the Health Act to get water and power connection, the government will not allow sanctioning of the utility connections under the Act.

He pointed out that the High Court had issued directives that electricity and water connections should not be given to houses which have been constructed illegally.
