Elvis Gomes Demands Government Compensation as Ravindra Bhavan Margao Closure Hits Stakeholders Hard
Published on

Elvis Gomes publicly called on the government to address stakeholder concerns over the ongoing closure of Ravindra Bhavan, Margao, which has shut its doors for maintenance and urgent repairs following significant water leakage and safety issues. He demanded that authorities either compensate affected event organisers and artists or expedite efforts to reopen the facility at the earliest to minimize the financial and cultural impact on the community.

The closure, covering major venues including the Pai Tiatrist Auditorium and the Black Box, was prompted by persistent roof leaks, collapsed false ceiling sections, and damaged acoustic wall panels—all flagged as safety risks by PWD inspections. Prolonged rainfall and delays in procurement have further extended repair timelines, with completion dates now pushed into June and, in some cases, beyond. Stakeholders have raised concerns over transparency, repeated expenditures, and disruption to scheduled events.

While management has assured that event organisers and artists will be prioritized for bookings once repairs are complete, leaders like Elvis Gomes insist on concrete measures to safeguard livelihoods and restore public access without further delay.
