Environmentalist Rajendra Kerkar has made a strong appeal to every Goan to actively contribute towards the protection and conservation of natural water sources, such as springs, lakes, and rivers—in their respective areas to prevent a future water crisis and safeguard resources for coming generations.
Speaking at a workshop titled “Water Conservation – Our Role”, organised by the Biodiversity Board of the Bandora Village Panchayat, Kerkar stressed the importance of documenting water sources as a step towards their conservation. “We cannot rely only on declarations and agitations to save Goa. It is the youth who must take up the responsibility to protect and preserve our environment,” he stated.
The workshop was attended by school students, Adv Surel Tilve, Wency Mendes, Gulab Borkar from Sanjeevan NGO, Dr Asha Sawardekar and others.
Kerkar sounded the alarm over Goa’s increasing groundwater extraction and warned that without a action plan, the state could soon face a serious water crisis.
