EOC recovers gold worth Rs 3 cr from bank lockers of accused

PANJIM: The Economic Offences Cell of (EOC) of Goa Police have found gold ornaments worth around Rs 3 crore from the lockers of a private bank of investment scam accused Myron Rodrigues and his accomplices, in connection with the case.

According to police, the EOC Police Station, Panjim, obtained search warrant from the JMFC 'C' Court, Margao, and searched three bank lockers - The EOC searched three bank lockers - one operated by Myron's wife and co-accused Deepali Parab, another operated jointly by Myron and his ex-wife Sunita Rodrigues and the third locker used jointly by Myron and Deepali, in Fatorda branch of a private bank, on Thursday, December 5.

During the search, police said, they found 4.125 kg gold ornaments worth almost Rs 3 cr along with the original receipts of gold purchased by Myron Rodrigues and Deepali Parab, sale deed along with title documents of a villa at Salcete purchased by Myron Rodrigues and documents related to a home loan availed by him.

In November this year, the EOC had booked Myron Rodirgues and his wife Deepali and five others for allegedly duping around 50 investors of approximately Rs 100 crore.

One Ivon Suresh Joaquim Almeida from Navelim had lodged a complaint stating that the couple had cheated him of Rs 36,54,336 on the pretext of investing his money in the share market.

Later, more complaints were filed against the accused and as per the complaints there are more than 50 investors who have been duped worth Rs 100 crore.

Meanwhile, speaking to O Heraldo, EOC Police Station In-charge PI Ramesh Shirodkar said, "The EOC conducted the search after securing warrant from the honourable court. During the search, gold ornaments worth approximately Rs 3 crore were found. These, along with other documents, have been attached by us."
