MARGAO: Pratima Coutinho, the former president of the Goa Pradesh Mahila Congress, was arrested by police in connection with a case alleging that she hurt the sentiments of the majority community.
The police reported that a non-bailable warrant had been issued against her for failing to appear at a court hearing. She was arrested on Sunday and subsequently released on bail.
According to the Fatorda police, Ankit Salgaonkar has filed a complaint stating that Coutinho allegedly displayed a scooter as a body and performed rituals in a manner typical of Hindu customs which outraged religious feelings.
The incident had occurred on July 1, 2020, and offence was registered on July 4, same year. The incident had occurred opposite the South Goa Collectorate building, Margao.
The Fatorda police have filed a chargesheet against Coutinho in a Margao court for allegedly hurting the sentiments of the Hindus during the protest.
A 15-page chargesheet has been filed before Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC), Margao. In all, seven witnesses have been mentioned in the chargesheet, said the police.
